WADA reduces sporting bans for recreational drug use

The World Anti-Doping Authority (WADA) has announced that, in the future, athletes will face substantially reduced bans if they test positive for recreational drugs. WADA will change the regulations on the basis that recreational drugs, such as cocaine and cannabis, have no known performance enhancing effects. The new anti-doping code will be introduced in 2021 and will reduce bans issued to athletes who test positive for recreational drugs from 4 years to 4 months.
