Virginia to become the 16th US state to decriminalise cannabis

The US state of Virginia’s House and Senate have approved a cannabis decriminalisation bill. The governor of Virginia, who has previously campaigned for cannabis reform, is now expected to approve the bill. If approved, the law will replace the current $500 fine for low-level cannabis possession with a maximum civil penalty of $50. The potential for a 30-day prison sentence for low-level cannabis possession will also be removed.
