US government announces $30 million for harm-reduction services

As part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, the US government has allocated $30 million to fund harm reduction services. This is the first time that the federal government has directly provided funds for harm reduction services. The money will be allocated to states and local tribal and territorial governments and will be used for ‘overdose prevention programmes, syringe services and other harm reduction services’ as well as community drug treatment agencies.
