US Federal Judge orders FDA to speed up e-cigarette review

Federal Judge Paul Grimm has ruled that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must speed up its review of e-cigarettes that are currently available on the market. The ruling relates to a lawsuit filed in Maryland by public health groups who claim that the lack of regulation from the FDA has caused an increase in e-cigarette use among young people. Judge Paul Grimm said that the FDA’s decision to delay the review constituted an “abdication of its statutory duties.” The FDA was given two weeks to submit an action plan to outline the next stages of the review.
