US drug overdose deaths exceed 100,000

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that more than 100,000 people died from drug overdoses in the US over the 12-months to April 2021. This figure is 28.5% higher than recorded in the 12-months to April 2020. Implicated substances include synthetic opioids (primarily fentanyl derivatives) and stimulants (including methamphetamine and cocaine)
