US cigarette sales increase for the first time in 20 years

The US Federal Trade Commission’s annual Cigarette Report shows sales of cigarette products increased by 0.4% during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the first time that cigarette sales have increased in the past 20 years, rising from 202.9 billion cigarettes in 2019 to 203.7 billion in 2020. During the same time, cigarette companies increased expenditure on advertising and promotion from $7.62 to $7.84 billion.
