Tobacco consumption up 19% since 2018 in Papua New Guinea

The Manufacturers Council of Papua New Guinea has reported that tobacco consumption increased by 19% between 2018 and 2021. Increases in prevalence and in daily consumption, particularly in the highlands region, were responsible for the increase. Illicit products account for an estimated 52% of all tobacco purchases in the country.
