Thailand’s tourism industry asks government to lift alcohol ban

Businesses in Thailand have asked the government to remove restrictions on alcohol sales, arguing the measures have caused “catastrophic damage” to the tourism sector. The ban on alcohol sales in restaurants and nightlife venues was introduced in April 2021 following a rise in COVID-19 cases.  As the country re-opens for tourists, businesses have voiced concern that the ban will deter visitors and nightlife.
