Taiwan to raise the legal age of smoking and tighten rules on vaping

The Health Promotion Administration (HPA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan has proposed an amendment to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act to increase the legal age of smoking from 18 to 20 years. The HPA reports that over 80% of smokers in Taiwan start smoking before the age of 20. The amendment will also regulate the supply and use of tobacco and vaping products and outline fines of up to NT$50 million (US$1.67 million) for making or importing banned products.
