Sackler family refuses opioid settlement without legal immunity

The Sackler family, owners of OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma, has refused to pay a legal settlement unless it is granted legal immunity for all current and future lawsuits over its involvement in the opioid crisis. The US bankruptcy trustee, nine US states and the District of Columbia have objected to the company’s proposed settlement plan which would grant the Sackler family legal protection.
