Rwanda to charge families for drug rehabilitation

The director general of the National Rehabilitation Service in Rwanda has announced that families of patients will have to pay for rehabilitation services if those families are deemed to be ‘financially capable’. Most people in state funded rehabilitation centres are referred from street or criminal justice sources; however, an increasing number of referrals are from families who are worried about their children’s behaviour and it is these families that will be required to pay.
