Rise in tobacco smuggling in South Africa

The ban on tobacco sales across South Africa in response to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in increased illicit cigarette trade. South Africa and Zimbabwe have enhanced their border patrols and, despite having built a 25-mile fence across their shared border, continue to face difficulties addressing the illicit tobacco trade.
