Report on drug trafficking in Chile

A report published by Chile’s Drug Trafficking Observatory has highlighted changes in drug smuggling patterns over the past 3 years. Drugs are now less commonly transported via traditional routes through Paraguay and Bolivia and are increasingly transported by sea as well as through Columbia, Ecuador and Peru. The report also noted an increased use of domestic laboratories to produce synthetic drugs, with demand for synthetic drugs in Chile having increased by around 680% between 2017 and 2019.
