Phillip Morris suspends social media campaign

Tobacco producer Phillip Morris International Inc has suspended its social media campaign following an investigation by Reuters into the use of online ‘influencers’. The company’s marketing rules prohibit it from using celebrities who themselves are under 25 years old, or who might target youth audiences. The investigation by Reuters identified several paid ‘influencers’, one of whom was 21. Phillip Morris says that it has launched an internal investigation and maintains that it has not broken any tobacco or advertising laws.
