Nepal issues guidelines to curb drug abuse

The Ministry of Home Affairs in Nepal has issued guidelines to all local municipalities instructing them to act to prevent increasing use of psychoactive substances. The Guideline to Local Levels for Control and Prevention of Drug Abuse requires ‘local levels’ of government to form committees with people from across Nepalese communities including young people and the police. The committees will be responsible for maintaining existing laws on illicit drug use and preventing a growth in uptake among young people. There are 753 ‘local levels’ of government in Nepal and if fully implemented the guidelines will cover 250 million people.
