Naloxone distribution enhanced across Scotland during the COVID-19 pandemic

Scotland has introduced new guidelines to improve the distribution of naloxone. The opioid overdose reversal drug is usually only available through drug treatment services; however, new guidelines relating to the COVID-19 pandemic now allow for it to be supplied by ‘any services’. The Lord Advocate commented that it was not in the public interest to prosecute individuals who supply naloxone at this time. To raise awareness, window clings with the ‘save someone’ logo will be used to highlight premises where naloxone is available for use in an emergency.
