Latvian alcohol production, aside from beer, totalled 23,346 million litres in the first 6 months of 2020. This is 8.9% lower than was recorded in the same period last year. Wine production reduced by 10.2%, sparkling wine production by 7.6%, and cocktail production by 8%. At the same time, vodka production increased by 6.4% to 5,662m litres. The overall decrease in alcohol production has been attributed to a reduction in the difference between excise taxes in Latvia and neighbouring Estonia meaning that fewer people travelled to Latvia to buy alcoholic beverages.
