Japan cannabis offender numbers increased in 2019

Japan’s police force investigated 743 more people for cannabis offences in Japan in 2019 than in 2018, bringing the 2019 total to 4,321. It is the sixth consecutive year that numbers of cannabis cases have increased in Japan. The latest increase was particularly high among people aged between 14 and 19, where the proportion rose from 2.0 people per 100,000 in 2018 to 8.7 per 100,000 in 2019.
