Indian state of Mizoram bans alcohol

Following approval of The Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Bill 2019, the state of Mizoram in north-eastern India has banned alcohol production, sale and consumption among the general public. The state previously banned all alcohol from 1997 to 2015 when the ban was lifted. The resumption of alcohol prohibition comes after the Mizo National Front government made alcohol legislation a major promise in state elections, going on to win 26 of 40 seats in the state government.
