ICC authorises investigation into Philippine ‘war on drugs’

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has authorised a full investigation into crimes committed in the Philippines since 2016. The so called ‘war on drugs’ was initiated by President Rodrigo Duterte with an estimated 12,000 to 30,000 people believed to have been killed since his election in 2016. The ICC stated that there is a ‘reasonable basis’ to believe that crimes against humanity have been committed in furtherance of a state policy.
