Honduras cocaine lab discoveries signal shift from transit to production

Honduras authorities identified 12 drug processing laboratories between 2009 and 2020, some of which processed coca leaves into cocaine whilst others comprised nurseries for coca plants. The discoveries suggest that drug traffickers in Honduras now have the capability to produce and process cocaine, where previously they operated transit hubs only. Most labs were found in the mountainous, western regions of Honduras including Lempira, Santa Bárbara and Copán.
