Guyana adds ecstasy to list of banned substances

Guyana’s government has added ecstasy/3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) to the list of substances that are illegal to possess or use. The new regulations were put in place following concerns over an increase in the number of cases involving the possession and sale of the substance. Since 2018, there have been several legal cases for possession and supply of MDMA that have been dropped because prosecutors have failed to demonstrate that MDMA is a prohibited substance.
