France halts online sales of nicotine products

The French government has restricted pharmacy sales of nicotine products and banned all online sales. The restrictions cover nicotine replacement therapies (NRT), with people now only allowed to buy 1 month’s supply of NRT from pharmacies. A register will be taken of all people who have bought NRT products to prevent multiple purchases. Nicotine products have been in high demand following a report from a Paris hospital claiming that smokers were less likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19 symptoms and that this may reflect a protective effect of nicotine.
