Fewer young people using heroin in Ireland

The numbers of young people in Ireland who accessed drug treatment services for heroin use fell 94% between 1996 and 2014. The decline continued into 2018 when Dublin’s treatment centre for young people closed citing a lack of new patients. In the mid-1990s, around 180 adolescents per year were treated in Dublin for heroin addiction.
