Drug overdose rates fall in Estonia

Rates of drug overdose reduced from 110 per year in 2017 to 30 in 2019. The reduction has been attributed to police targeting fentanyl supply as well as to increased distribution of naloxone. Around 700 doses of naloxone were distributed in 2019, with 113 doses known to have been used. Ambulance callouts for drug overdoses have also reduced, with official figures from the city of Tallinn showing that callouts reduced from 130 per month in 2017 to around 30 per month in 2019.
