Decline in Myanmar poppy plantations

A report from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) states that there has been a reduction in poppy cultivation in Myanmar. There were an estimated 41,000 hectares of poppy plantations in Shah and Kachin states in 2017, reducing to 36,100 hectares in 2018. Most opium production in Myanmar comes from these two states with a further 1,200 hectares of poppy production reported across the Chin and Kayah states.
