Colombia produces record quantity of cocaine

The Illicit Cultivations Monitoring System of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has reported that in 2020 Columbia produced 1,228 tons of cocaine, compared with 1,136 in 2019.  This makes 2020 the highest producing year on record. This increase in production comes despite a decline in the area of land used to cultivate coca and has been attributed to the increasing use of large and efficient “mega-labs” over small, domestic processing plants.
