Ban on peer-assisted injection lifted for safe consumption sites in Canada

Canada’s health agency, Health Canada, has lifted the ban on peer-assisted injection at all safe consumption sites (SCS) across the country. Peer assistance has been banned ever since the first SCS was opened in Canada in 2003. Health Canada has now changed the policy to encourage people who use drugs to continue to access SCS during the COVID-19 lock-down, allowing people to prepare and perform injections for their peers. Twenty sites across Canada have now implemented the policy.
