Australian festival strip-searches of under 18s were unlawful

An enquiry by New South Wales Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) has concluded that police strip-searches of three boys aged between 15 and 17 years at Lost City Music Festival and one girl aged 16 years at Splendour in the Grass festival in 2018 were unlawful because no attempt was made to ensure that either a parent or guardian was present. The inquiry did not report evidence of misconduct against any officers involved. A full LECC report on strip-search policing measures is due in late 2020.
