Alcohol and tobacco consumption down in Sri Lanka during the COVID-19 pandemic

The Alcohol and Drug Information Centre (ADIC) in Sri Lanka has reported an 80% decrease in alcohol use and 68% reduction in smoking during the coronavirus pandemic. The changes were recorded between 1 May and 10 May 2020 and, for alcohol, were attributed to COVID-19 related restrictions on availability and access. Among smokers, 48% reported decreased nicotine consumption while 20% said they had quit.
